Information

Today, more and more people are paying attention to their health and seeking ways to maintain it. So, what is so magical about Reishi, known as the top medicine? How does it help us achieve health and longevity?

On the evening of January 25th, GanoHerb, in collaboration with the "Shared Doctor" program, invited Professor Lin Zhibin from Peking University Health Science Center to their live broadcast. He brought us a scientific sharing session on "Reishi and Health and Longevity", which was full of valuable information throughout. Let's take a look together.

1. First of all, we must know that aging is irreversible, but it can be delayed.

The aging of humans is an inevitable and natural process, which is characterized by the gradual degeneration of bodily organs. Many people believe that aging begins with organs such as hair, bones, and skin, but this is merely a perceptual experience. The internal causes of aging involve multiple aspects, with key indicators including telomere loss, DNA damage, mitochondrial dysfunction, stem cell exhaustion, and chronic inflammation, which collectively lead to organ dysfunction and aging. The anti-aging effects of Reishi mushroom are the result of the combined action of these multiple factors.

There are many factors that influence the aging process, with the most significant being poor habits in daily life. Bad habits can accelerate aging, while good habits can delay it. The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed the concept of "healthy aging", which advocates for the development and maintenance of physical and mental health in old age. This is not merely about longevity but about improving the quality of life, aiming for "healthy longevity". Reishi mushroom plays a unique role in promoting healthy longevity.

2. The Anti-Aging Effects of Reishi mushroom

The "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" records the effects of six types of Reishi mushrooms, all of which have the effect of "maintaining a light physique, warding off aging and contributing to an extended life if consumed for a  long term". It can be said that the most important recorded effect of Reishi mushroom in ancient books is "prolonging life".

In the live broadcast room, Professor Lin Zhibin popularized the anti-aging effects of Reishi mushroom.

Pharmacological Research on the Anti-Aging Effects of Reishi mushroom:

1. Reishi Mushroom Regulates Immune Function

Reishi can enhance DNA polymerase activity, strengthen lymphocyte proliferation, increase the production of IL-2, increase the cell count involved in the formation of anti-sheep red blood cell antibodies, and increase the number of antibody-producing cells, among other effects.

2. Reishi Polysaccharides and Triterpenes Can Act as Antioxidants and Free Radical Scavengers

The increase in oxidation products can have harmful effects on bodily organs and tissues. However, Reishi mushroom promotes the activity of antioxidant enzymes, reduces lipid peroxidation levels, inhibits the production of free radicals, thereby delaying organ aging.

3. Reishi Extract Polysaccharides, Triterpenes, Spore Powder Can Improve Learning and Memory Impairments Caused by Aging

Pharmacological experiments have confirmed that Reishi mushroom can prevent and improve Alzheimer's disease, reduce the severity of learning and memory impairments, and has a good auxiliary therapeutic effect on Alzheimer's disease.

In addition to pharmacological research, a large number of elderly clinical trials have also proven that Reishi preparations can improve decreased immune function and poor sleep quality in the elderly, regulate menopausal endocrine disorders, and assist in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

These modern research findings provide an interpretation of the "Shennong Ben Cao Jing’s" descriptions of the six types of Reishi mushrooms, which state that "long-term consumption lightens the body, delays aging, and prolongs life". Therefore, it can be concluded that Reishi is highly beneficial for the elderly, promoting health preservation and longevity.

Question: Does Reishi have an effect on hypertension?

Both pharmacological research and clinical practice have confirmed that Reishi has a certain blood pressure-lowering effect on patients with hypertension, and it can also improve microcirculation and blood viscosity. In addition, Reishi has the effect of lowering blood lipids. However, it is still recommended to take Reishi in combination with conventional antihypertensive drugs, which can complement each other and also reduce the side effects of antihypertensive drugs.

Question: Is Reishi useful for menopause, and is 2g enough to consume at night?

Both pharmacological and clinical findings have discovered that Reishi has a certain alleviating effect on clinical symptoms of menopause such as irritability, neuroticism, emotional instability, and insomnia. Whether 2g is enough depends on what product they are consuming. If it is spore powder, 3~4g can be consumed.

3. How Do We Choose Reishi Products?

Firstly, choose products with batch numbers, either drug batch numbers or health food "blue hat". Secondly, from the product perspective, you can choose Reishi fruiting body extracts, which contain all the components of Reishi mushroom; you can also choose sporoderm-broken Reishi spore powder, which contains all the components of spore powder; you can further choose a composite product of "Reishi extract + Reishi spore powder" for adjuvant therapy.

In addition, in daily life, it is highly recommended to drink tea made from sliced Reishi mushroom as a substitute for tea. Lastly, it should be emphasized that Reishi mushroom should be consumed in large doses and eaten daily to bring us "one step closer" to healthy longevity!
