Information

In today's fast-paced world, we often feel drained, as if our bodies have been emptied out. Despite being exhausted, we find it hard to replenish our energy. Every time we take supplements, we suffer from excessive internal heat, leaving us wondering why our bodies are so "picky"...

Today, we’ll discuss a key concept in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM): why a person in poor health cannot handle potent tonics. We’ll also explore how Reishi helps regulate the body and what makes it different from other supplements like Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin) and Ginseng.

"A Person in Poor Health Cannot Handle Potent Tonic" – The Body’s Self-Protection Mechanism

In TCM, there’s a principle that when the body is in a weakened state, it may not be able to properly absorb strong tonics or supplements. This doesn't mean the body is being "picky"; rather, it's a signal that the body is not yet ready for intense nourishment. The reason is simple: when the body is already weak—whether due to poor digestion, lack of energy, or internal heat—it may react negatively to strong supplements, even causing discomfort or imbalance.

For example, if a dry piece of land suddenly receives a heavy rain, it won’t absorb the water effectively and might even erode. Similarly, when the body is extremely weak, overloading it with potent tonics can overwhelm its systems, leading to more discomfort. This is why, in TCM, it’s important to gradually nourish the body, allowing it to recover before introducing strong supplements.

One of the main reasons the body may "refuse" supplementation in this way is weak digestion and poor absorption, particularly related to the spleen and stomach. Blindly supplementing in this state can make things worse by exacerbating internal heat, further disturbing the balance.

Reishi vs. Other Supplements: Which Is Superior?

Among many supplements, Reishi stands out due to its unique, balanced nature. Unlike Ginseng, which can be overwhelming and excessively tonifying, or Deer Antler, which is warming and may cause internal heat if used incorrectly, Reishi is considered neutral in nature.

Reishi is one of the top herbs in TCM, known for its ability to "nourish life in harmony with nature." It works slowly and gently, nourishing the organs, tonifying the body, and promoting the flow of Qi and blood. This leads to improved overall health, enhanced vitality, and longevity.

Because of its neutral properties, Reishi is suitable for people with various constitutions—whether they are suffering from internal heat or weakness due to Qi deficiency. It can help balance the body without overwhelming it.

Why Does TCM Prefer Reishi?

In TCM, Reishi is regarded as a "master of balance." It helps harmonize Yin and Yang, regulate Qi and blood, and promote the body’s defensive and restorative functions. It is capable of both "attacking" and "defending," meaning it can nourish the body while also supporting its immunity.

Reishi has been widely used in modern clinical practice, particularly in helping treat chronic conditions and improve immune function. Professor Du Jian, Chief Physician at Fujian University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, shared during a press conference on the "High-Quality Development of the Reishi Industry" that Reishi is included in several key formulas for cancer treatment.

"Strengthening Healthy Qi and Inhibiting Tumors" Formula:
30g Astragalus, 30g Reishi, 15g Ligustrum Lucidum, 15g Chinese Yam – tonifies Qi and blood, strengthens healthy qi and nourishes Yin.

"Strengthening Healthy Qi and Detoxifying" Formula:
30g Astragalus, 30g Reishi, 15g Ligustrum Lucidum, 15g Chinese Yam, 15g Prunella vulgaris, 30g Oldenlandia – tonifies Qi and Yin, clears heat, and detoxifies.

"Detoxifying and Eliminating Masses" Formula:
15g Prunella vulgaris, 30g Oldenlandia, 6g Appendiculate Cremastra Pseudobulb, 15g Kushen – clears heat and detoxifies, and eliminates masses.

What Is the "Reverse Reaction" to Reishi?

Some people may experience mild gastrointestinal discomfort, constipation, or dry mouth when first taking Reishi. This is a normal "adjustment" response, which typically fades with continued use.

If gastrointestinal discomfort occurs, it’s advisable to take Reishi after meals instead of on an empty stomach. If the reaction is more intense, consider reducing the dosage and gradually increasing it as the body adapts.

Lastly, remember that "taking the right Reishi" is more important than just "taking Reishi." Substandard Reishi products won’t provide the long-term benefits of nourishment and regulation—and may even cause liver damage. Only high-quality, certified Reishi products can deliver the full range of benefits, supporting lasting health.
